UPDATED August 2017: If you're looking for a fun outing to do with the entire family, outdoor fairs and festivals are the way to go. These fairs in the New York area are happening in August and September and have something to offer for everyone in the family.


New York Renaissance Faire
Saturdays, Sundays & Labor Day, Aug. 5-Oct. 1
600 Route 17A, Tuxedo Park, NY

The New York Renaissance Faire is back for its 40th anniversary of music, dance, creative crafts, and food. Don’t miss out on the Tortuga Twins, Arobatrix, and Crimson PThirates! Some entertainers that will be new this season include Cirque Du Swer, an acrobat show; Duende, a high energy dance band; and The Jousters. There will also be a pub crawl, rides and games, and an artisan marketplace. Travel back in time and join the New York Renaissance Faire. 

Delaware County Fair
Aug. 14-19
Delaware County Fair St., Walton, NY

Take part in the largest agricultural fair in the region at the Delaware County Fair! More than 80,000 people come every fair for the fun activities that it offers. The fair features tractor and farm equipment displays, livestock contests, and all-day live entertainment! There will also be some of your favorite fair foods such as corn dogs, cotton candy, and so much more. Don’t miss out on a this six-day event.  
 

Herkimer County Fair
Aug. 15-20
135 Cemetary St., Frankfort, NY

The Herkimer County Fair will provide an action-filled outing with tons of events going on that everyone will enjoy. Come out to see the Little Miss pageants, tractor pulls, and an agricultural scavenger hunt. Also, don’t miss out on the horse show, talent show, and the demolition derby.

Steuben County Fair
Aug. 15-20
15 East Washington St. Bath, NY

There is so much to see at the Steuben County Fair this year including EXSTREAM Free Style Motocross, Dahlia show, and the Gladiolus show. There will also be must-see live performances from country musicians Josh Turner and Alyssa Trahan. Some other attractions that families will be able to enjoy is the carnival and a pie eating contest. 
 

Altamont Fair
Aug. 15-20
129 Grand St., Altamont, NY

There's tons to celebrate this year at the Altamont Fair since it is the 125th anniversary of the fair’s first fair meeting ever. The Altamont Fair will be introducing new exciting attractions this year such as Nerger’s Tigers featuring rare white tigers. However, the fun doesn't stop there, at the World of Wonders there is a swallower, fire eater, and some good old-fashioned jokes. Don’t miss out on the fair that is so fun it is has been around for more than a century!
 

Dutchess Fair
Aug. 22-27
6636 Route 9, Rhinebeck, NY

Half a million people will be gathering this year at the Dutchess Fair on 144 acres to experience all the activities that will be going on. Some of the entertainment to catch this year include the mad science show, the kid’s celebration mega show, and Hilby the Skinny German Juggler. In addition, there will be many different foods to try fun from vendors around the world such as Belgian waffles, apple crisp with a vanilla ice cream, stuffed potatoes, and more. Don’t be part of the other half million who miss out!


New York State Fair
Aug. 23-Sept. 4
581 State Fair Blvd., Syracuse, NY

The 2017 New York State Fair provides 13 days of entertainment featuring two shows a day at the Stan Colella Stage. The lineup is a mix of country to pop music and is free with fair admission. More than one million people are expected to attend the 171st New York State Fair in Syracuse to enjoy exhibits, fair food, a bustling midway, rides, and more.
 

Schaghticoke Fair
Aug. 30-Sept. 4
69 Stillwater Bridge Road, Routes 67 and 40, Schaghticoke, NY

Come join the third oldest fair in New York State, Schaghticoke Fair has been a source of fun for 198 years! Come on down and try all the healthy fresh veggies and fruit that kids will enjoy. There will also be events for the whole family to partake in such as horse shows, hula hoop contests, and the rising star competition. 


Columbia County Fair
Aug. 30-Sept. 4
182 Hudson Ave., Chatham, NY

The Columbia County Fair will be celebrating 177 years of fun, food, and contests. Did I mention that a two-time Grammy-winning country music star will be there? Travis Tritt will be in attendance for an evening of southern rock, gospel, R&B, and country hits. So don't skip the chance to see him along with a chance for your kids to enter in the Columbia County’s Got Talent competition. Guess there won’t be just one star at the fair after all!
 

The New York City Fair
Sept. 1-4
Belmont Park, 2150 Hempstead Turnpike Elmont, NY

The New York City Fair will have a full midway, a dozen carnival games, and a kids' zone with bouncy houses and slides. The New York City Fair will also have some special guests such as Spiderman, Princess Leah, Batman, and more. Other cool attractions include the ultimate dog stunt show and the fearless Flores stunt show. 
 

Long Island Fair
Sept. 16, 17, 23, 24

The Long Island Fair is back for its 175th year of corn husking, baked goods, and craft contests—to name a few! You also won’t want to miss all the attractions that the Long Island Fair has to offer such as the reptile show, an erotic petting zoo, and magic shows. There is something for everyone at the Long Island Fair this year so don't let it pass by!
